Tab Commands


 

The TAB commands set or clear the tabs. Many times, it is desired to have certain information appear in specific positions within the record. The editor accomplishes this through the use of tabs. Refer to the beginning of this section for details regarding the key sequence of data versus tab characters. Up to nine different tab settings may be specified. All previous tab settings are cleared when new tabs are entered. Available commands are:

:T

Allow setting of the tabs. After entering this command, the command line is filled with numbers. The tabs may be set in this manner by spacing across (with the space bar) until the desired tab setting(s) are reached. When the column is reached, enter any non-blank character in that column and space across to the next desired position. When all tabs have been entered, terminate the entry with the enter key.

:T {n},{m},{o}

Set the tabs at positions {n}, {m} and {o}.

:T

Clear all tab settings.

:TA

Set tabs at 10, 16 and 40.

:TAX

Set tabs at 10, 16, 40 and 75.

:TD

Set tabs at 10 and 20.

:TDX

Set tabs at 10, 20, 40 and 75.

:T*

Display current tab settings.

:TCH

Set tab character to Tab key.
